Update on Fatal Ayer Stabbing: Defendant Charged with Murder

AYER –Laqwanda Villaronga, 26 of Ayer, was arraigned today in Ayer District Court on one count of murder in connection with the fatal stabbing of Jonathan Merritt, 24 of Ayer. Villaronga is currently being held without bail.  Her next court date is November 5, 2018.

At approximately 1:18 p.m. on September 28, 2018 Ayer Police responded to a 911 call of a stabbing on Groton School Road in Ayer. Upon arrival police located the victim, a 24-year-old Ayer man with an apparent stab wound to the chest. That man was transported to Nashoba Valley Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

The preliminary investigation suggests that the victim was in an apparent altercation with a female, a 26-year-old Ayer woman who is known to him and resides in the Groton School Road apartment. During the altercation the female allegedly stabbed the male with a kitchen knife. Ayer Police subsequently detained the female at the scene.  Villaronga was arraigned on the charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury on October 1, 2018 a nolle prosequi has been filed on that charge now that she has been charged with murder.

This investigation is being conducted by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Ayer Police, Massachusetts State Police assigned to the District Attorney’s Office and the Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services Section.
