Alerting Boston’s green thumbs that they have until Wednesday, July 11, to register for Mayor Walsh’s 2018 Garden Contest presented by the Boston Parks and Recreation Department with a grand prize provided by JetBlue.
Now in its 22nd year, the contest recognizes gardeners who have landscaped, planted flowers, trees, and shrubs, and, in the process, helped beautify Boston’s neighborhoods.
Only gardens planted by amateur gardeners are eligible
to take part in the contest. No professionally contracted work is allowed to enter. Entrants are required to submit photographs of their garden along with an official entry form. Using these photos, judges will narrow
the hundreds of contest entries to five finalists per category. Site visits by contest judges determine the top three winners in the following categories:
Porch, Balcony, Deck or Window Box Garden
Small Yard Garden (250 sq. ft. or less)
Medium Yard Garden (250 to 500 sq. ft.)
Large Yard Garden (larger than 500 sq. ft.)
Vegetable or Herb Garden
Storefront, Business or Community Organization Garden
