Tewksbury Police-The Truth About Vaping Presentation

On Monday, May 14th, from 7:00pm-8:30pm, Tewksbury Congregational Church will partner with the Tewksbury Police Department to present “The Truth About Vaping.” This 90 minute interactive talk will address the significant rise among teens in the practice of vaping or juuling, a form of smoking with a nicotine-based liquid and an electronic device or e- cigarette. With one in three high school seniors nationwide confirming that they have experienced “vaping” in the past year, parents and caregivers are eager to educate themselves and make informed decisions of how they will address vaping in their own homes.

Hosted by Tewksbury Congregational Church, this talk is open to all within the Tewksbury community and beyond and is FREE of charge. Our presenters include TPD’s Program Director for the Substance Abuse Prevention Collaborative, Maria Ruggiero, and the Northeast Regional Manager of Learn to Cope, Kelley Giasullo.

A recent study in the Journal of Pediatrics found that teens who used e-cigarettes were 6x more likely to try tobacco cigarettes compared to kids who do not vape. Additionally, vaping is a natural gateway to experimental drug use, including alcohol, marijuana, opiates and other drugs. For these reasons and many more, it is important to better understand the risks associated with vaping.

Topics covered during this presentation will include the difference between vaping and “dripping,” why teens are justifying vaping, signs that your child may be vaping, chemical content of vaping liquids, side effects, regulation of products, MA laws pertaining to vaping, the use of THC oil (marijuana) in vapes, and examples of types of vapes and vaping liquids.

The intended audience for this talk is parents and caregivers, but all adults are welcome to attend. Tewksbury Congregational Church is located at 10 East Street, across from the Town Common. Please use the side entrance and join us in Fellowship Hall. Should you have questions, please see the contact info below.
