Framingham Assault Suspect Sentenced to Four to Five Years in State Prison

 

WOBURN – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan has announced that Thomas Benjamin, 50, was sentenced to four to five years in State Prison today by Middlesex Superior Court Judge Bruce Henry in connection with a 2015 Framingham assault that left a victim in critical condition. Benjamin was found guilty of assault and battery causing serious bodily injury yesterday by a Middlesex Superior Court jury.

 

On August 13, 2015, at approximately 7:10 p.m., Framingham Police were dispatched to the Downtown Common for a report of a fight between two males. Upon arrival, police located the victim who had sustained significant injuries to his face and was slipping in and out of consciousness. Authorities learned from their investigation that the defendant had approached the victim while he was sitting alone in the park. The defendant punched the victim multiple times in the head before leaving the scene. Witnesses attended to the victim following the assault until first responders arrived.

 

The victim was transported to an area hospital and transferred shortly thereafter to Tufts Medical Center where he remained hospitalized for one month. Due to the assault, the victim was treated for a traumatic brain injury and fractures to his nose and septum among other injuries.

 

The prosecutor assigned to this case was Assistant District Attorney Margaret Pastuszak. The Victim Witness Advocate was Lesia Schymonowytsch.
