Woburn Woman Arraigned in Connection with 2015 Motor Vehicle Homicide

CAMBRIDGE – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan has announced that Berta Rodriguez, 62, of Woburn, was arraigned yesterday in Cambridge District Court and charged with motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation and a crosswalk violation in connection with the 2015 death of 91-year-old William Dotson of Arlington.
Judge Roanne Sragow released the defendant on personal recognizance. The next scheduled hearing in this case is Wednesday, February 15, 2017.
On March 23, 2015, at approximately 11:08 a.m., an Arlington Police officer was waved down by a motorist and informed that there was a man who had been struck by a motor vehicle on at the intersection of Varnum Street and Massachusetts Avenue in Arlington. Upon arrival the officer observed a man lying in the street suffering from serious injuries after allegedly being struck by a motor vehicle while in the crosswalk. EMS and Arlington Fire Department personnel responded and began administering medical assistance. The victim was then transported to Massachusetts General Hospital where he subsequently died. The defendant remained on scene following the crash.
These charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
The prosecutor assigned to this case is Assistant District Attorney Matt Bailey.
