K9 Kato Locates Missing Child in Rutland

On Friday June 24th at approximately 5:00 p.m., Rutland Police Department requested K9 assistance for a child that left a school in their town and had been missing for approximately an hour. Sgt. Ray Jones responded and made contact with Rutland officers. Utilizing clothing that staff at the school were able to provide Rutland Police, K9 Kato was deployed on a track using the clothes as a scent article. Kato acquired a scent and began tracking along a trail before entering dense woods. Kato continued to track deep into the woods before he turned and started tracking back towards where they started. Shortly thereafter, the team located the child. The child was brought back to the school where there was an ambulance to evaluate him. The child had very minor injuries and was reunited with school staff.
