Earlier this week, Medford High School and Medford Vocational Technical High School celebrated the Second Annual History Day Showcase Event. Similar to the Annual Science Fair, this event featured outstanding student work in the field of history. Their projects were on display for students, families, teachers, administrators, community members and staff. Students presented their individual research projects in a range of forms including documentaries, exhibits, papers, and websites. Some of the exhibits included: The Spread, Dynamics and Diversity of Buddhism, The Occupation of Japan, The Cuban Missile Crisis, The Declaration of Independence, The History of Photography, The Development and International Reach of Chinese Opera and The Legacy of Joan of Arc. There was a documentary on the development of the Polio Vaccine, and there were websites discussing: Pythagoras, The Harlem Renaissance, Franz Schubert, The Smallpox Epidemic, and The Legacy of the Aborigines.
Superintendent Roy Belson, Nicole Chiesa, Director, English Language Arts & Social Studies, Lead Teacher Nick Kain, and School Committee Member Kathy Kreatz were among those who attended this History Day event. The Social Studies Department would like to thank all of the students for their diligent and exciting work!
