On January 6th, Mayor Carlo DeMaria and the Planning Department held a meeting to discuss the upcoming Community Development Grant Application that will be submitted to the State Department of Housing and Community Development on February 12, 2016.
The CDGB program is a federally funded, competitive grant program, which helps small cities and towns meet a broad range of community development needs. Everett receives funds for housing, community, and economic development projects that assist low and moderate-income residents, or to revitalize areas of the city.
The Planning Staff presided over the meeting to solicit input regarding projects and activities that should be listed in the upcoming grant application for the Massachusetts Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program.
The Planning Staff also reported on the progress of current grants, discussed current and proposed target area, and the Community Development Strategy. All of these are required as part of this grant.
Recognizing the importance of strong planning and community involvement, Mayor DeMaria and his administration proposed FY2016 Mini-Entitlement Program will focus on the following activities to be considered for funding: Public Social Services, Housing Rehabilitation, Infrastructure Improvements – consisting or rehabilitation of parks, improvements of roadway and sidewalks, and Microenterprise Assistance.
