Flemming Lund is not only going to explain how infrared diagnostic technology can detect difficult-to-find energy losses in a home or building – he’ll be giving a live demonstration at the Milano Center. This unique workshop, hosted by the Melrose Energy Commission, takes place on Thursday, Nov. 19, at 7:15 p.m.
It is free and open to the public. The Milano Center is located at 201 West Foster St. in Melrose.
Lund heads up Infrared Diagnostic LLC, a local company that performs infrared inspections and energy audits for residential, industrial, commercial, municipal and institutional clients in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Almost all of his residential customers are homeowners who have had previous energy audits and assessments and their energy-loss problems were so complex that they couldn’t be addressed through the traditional channels.
“The most common complaints I receive are about ice dams or that the house is freezing,” says Lund, who is certified for infrared analysis and is a Home Energy Rating System (HERS) rater. “We use the most modern technology available to diagnose hard-to-find problems.”
The HERS Index is a nationally recognized industry standard by which a home’s energy efficiency is measured.
Other common issues include leaking ducts, which can cause energy losses up to 25 percent, as well as leaking windows, uneven insulation patterns and areas that have no insulation.
Improper insulation and air sealing in the attic can result in ice dams and mold.
“If you have problems with your heating or insulation, or if you just want to see some cutting-edge technology in action, this workshop is a great opportunity,” says Lori Timmermann, MEC co-chair. “You’ll actually be able to see color images of the building and where the energy losses are occurring.”
A question-and-and-answer session will follow the demonstration.
