Trick or Treat Marshfield Center

The 5th Annual Trick or Treat Marshfield Center was held on Saturday, October 24. The day started with a story at the library at 11:30 a.m. and ended with our annual costume parade at the Marshfield Kids at Play Community Playground at Library Plaza.

Event officials estimated that approx. 500 children participated in the event. Many families, from Marshfield and beyond enjoyed an afternoon of Trick or Treating at over 40 local businesses. In addition to offering candy treats, many businesses offered food, Cider, or activities such as Temporary Tattoos, Cookie Decorating, Halloween Hair Coloring, Cup Cake Decorating, Pumpkin Carving as well as a costume contest for dogs!!

We were thrilled with turnout and the number of businesses who were able to participate. Due to the number of participants several businesses reported that they ran out of candy by 2:00 p.m.

The Costume parade draws a number of participants; there were a variety of very clever costumes, which made the task of judging difficult. As the children walked around the playground the judges began their difficult task.

The winners are as follows:

Scariest – Maleficent

Paige Gaffney, age 5 (Marshfield)

Most Original – Crazy Cat Lady

Evelynn Hannigan, age 2 (Halifax)

Judges Choice – Bee and the Bee Keeper

Alyssa Hill, age 2 (Dracut) and mom Diana

Animal – Dragon/Dinosaur

Sam Burgess (20 months) Pembroke

Theme Character – Minions and Gru

Jane, Anna, Thomas and Tom Castiglione, ages 9,6,4,40 (Marshfield)

The winner of each category received a basket of goodies thanks to the good nature of many of the participating local businesses including Shaw’s, Mono Mono Boutique, Peppermint Twist, Sweet Frogs, Sports Clips and Ocean Village Book Store.

The parade had one grand prize winner. Each parade participant received one free raffle ticket. The grand prize was drawn as the judges finalized the results. Dan Boylen was the winner of the grand prize, which included:

$50.00 Gift Certificate from Tumblefun, Free Kid Cut, from Shear Bliss Salon, $25.00 Gift Certificate from Riva Pizza Pizzeria and a book, Pirates at lobster Cove, Thanks to Ocean Village Bookstore.

Our thanks to our judging crew from the Marshfield Chamber of Commerce, Jonathan, Laurel and Vanessa, as well as to Sarah Nobles, owner of Mono Mono Boutique for her efforts to not only head up this event, but as the creator of Trick or Treat Marshfield Center. We appreciate the continued support of the Marshfield Police Department for providing a safe way to cross Webster Street (Webster and Snow Road)

We look forward to seeing you next year. Send your suggestions to Mono Mono Boutique or the Marshfield Recreation Department. We look forward to continuing to provide a fun and safe way for families to celebrate Trick or Treating Marshfield Center.
