Construction of New Police Department Underway in Malden

Posted by

Marking the momentous first steps in the construction process of Malden’s new police station, Mayor Gary Christenson came out to witness the beginning of the demolition of current buildings on the site. The police station is being constructed on the parcel of land currently known as 794-838 Eastern Avenue.

As part of the redevelopment of Malden’s central commercial district, the construction of the police station is the first phase of the project to demolish City Hall and the current police station, reopen Pleasant Street to through traffic and construct a new mixed use retail, residential, and civic development on the current City Hall site.
Hill International Engineering Services and Flansburgh Architects have worked tirelessly with the Malden Municipal Building Committee and the Malden Redevelopment Authority to keep this project on schedule. Commodore Builders is serving as Construction Manager of the project. The project is slated for completion in the fall of 2016. An official ground breaking ceremony to include Secretary of Housing and Economic Development Jay Ash and the Legislative Delegation is planned for early August.
