Heritage Festival Concert – New Black Eagle Jazz Band

Bring a picnic, lawn chairs or a blanket to sit on, sit in the beautiful Newton Center Gardens and enjoy a free concert by the New Black Eagle Jazz Band, bringing the sounds of traditional New Orleans Jazz to audiences all over the world, for more than 40 years! The band has delighted audiences all over the world with their huge and eclectic repertoire of jazz from the 1920’s and 30’s. The group has a mature mastery of this great American music- from Louis Armstrong and Jelly Roll Morton to early Duke Ellington to Cole Porter; from blues to rags to popular songs of the era. Heritage Festival Concert – The Reminisants

They play a collection of great music for all kinds of musical tastes and generations. The band was formed in 1973 by three Waltham High School friends, and has since expanded to the current six man group. The Reminisants have performed with many legends of Rock-N-Roll: among them The Beach Boys, Paul Revere and The Raiders, The Drifters, Felix Cavaliere’s Rascals, Jay and The Americans, Shirley Alston Reeves, of The Shirelles, Johnny Rivers, Chubby Checker, The Tokens, The Del Vikings, Gary Lewis and The Playboys, The Crystals, The Chiffons, The Marvellettes, The Contours, Herb Reed and The Platters, The Coasters, The Belmonts, Bobby Lewis, Mitch Rider, B.J. Bug Out! with Karen K in her imaginary backyard fort where she makes music with her friends, the Jitterbugs: Bumble (the bee who doesn’t like to sting); Stinky (loves playing outside, refuses baths), Hop (lots of energy, not a lot of self control); Slug Bug (needs a LOT of naps); and her best friend, Lightning (thinks he’s a super hero). In this crowd-engaging, theatrical show, Karen takes audience members young and old on a musical adventure exploring themes of kindness, friendship and downright fun with her catchy, upbeat, genre-swirling songs. The group mixes regional blues from Chicago, Memphis and New Orleans together with rootsy rock & roll, jazz, calypso, and Latin flavors.
