Commissioner Hasson will serve as Interim Commissioner until the appointment of a permanent Fire Commissioner. A search for a permanent Fire Commissioner will begin this week.
“The Boston Fire Department will be in great hands under the leadership of John Hasson,” Mayor Walsh said. “I’m grateful for his service and his commitment to fulfilling the vision of the Boston Fire Department as we work together to improve the services we provide the City of Boston.”
A 41-year veteran of the Boston Fire Department, Commissioner Hasson served in the role of Acting Chief for the last six months, responsible for overseeing all Department divisions, including field services, fire alarm, fire prevention, and training. Prior to being named Acting Chief, he served as the Department’s Chief of Operations, responsible for day-to-day operations of the Department.
Hasson joined the ranks of the Boston Fire Department in 1973 and served as a Division Commander in Downtown Boston. His father John served as a Captain in the Department for more than 30 years. Interim Commissioner Hasson is a 1977 graduate of the University of Massachusetts Boston. Prior to joining the Department, Hasson served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps.
