Mayor Christenson recently held a well-attended informational session for potential developers of the City Hall site. This was an opportunity for developers to ask questions of the Mayor regarding the potential development of the site, including reopening Pleasant Street to through traffic and redeveloping the remaining 2.19 acre parcel as a means of unlocking what many see as the true potential for downtown Malden. Many view the building as a barrier to a vibrant downtown. A Request for Proposals (RFP) seeking redevelopment options for this prime location in the downtown, opposite one of the busiest stations on the MBTA Orange line, has been issued with responses due back from the development community by October 11, 2013.
“I was encouraged by the interest in this project and by the response to the informational meeting,” said Mayor Christenson. “I look forward to the proposals for the redesign of the City Hall location.”
The Malden Redevelopment Authority is administering the RFP process for and on behalf of the City. Questions about the RFP should be directed to Deborah A. Burke, Assistant Executive Director, 781-324-5720, firstname.lastname@example.org.
